Ed Tauer is a former Mayor of Aurora, Colorado, serving from 2003 until November 2011. He is a member of the Republican Party. His father is former Mayor of Aurora, Colorado Paul Tauer. Tauer is mayor of Aurora, Colorado, a city of 300,000 residents located on the eastern edge of metro Denver. Tauer was elected mayor in 2003 after serving as an at-large member of the Aurora City Council since 1997. As mayor, Tauer has made it a priority to seek out opportunities to serve as a leader in regional cooperation and partnerships. He also has been involved in shaping the city’s water policies and strategic planning efforts. Tauer holds a master’s in Business Administration from the University of Colorado and a bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University. Tauer worked as a marketing and product development professional in the software and telecommunications industry for 15 years before becoming mayor. Tauer is a currently a member of the US Conference of Mayors, the National League of Cities, the Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority, the board of directors for the E-470 Authority, the board of directors for the Aurora Economic Development Council, the Metro Mayors Caucus and the Aurora Chamber of Commerce. His catchphrase is "neat" as he is known to repeat it several times during the course of a conversation. During his time as a Council Member he served on six council policy committees including Planning, Development & Environmental Affairs, Public Relations /Intergovernmental Affairs, Transportation & Airport Policy, Operations & Utilities, Boards, Commissions & Youth Programs, and Economic Development, which Tauer chaired. Tauer left office in November 2011 due to mayoral term limits. He was succeeded as mayor by Steve Hogan. Tauer and his wife, Betsy, and their son live in the Village East Neighborhood.
